Scientific Name: Neocaridina davidi var. ‘Fire Red’
Common Name: Fire Red Cherry Shrimp
Care Level: Easy / Beginner Friendly
Origin: Taiwan

Fire Red Cherry Shrimp are a stunning freshwater dwarf shrimp prized for their rich red colouration. Hardy, active and relatively easy to care for, they make a fantastic addition to planted and nano aquariums and are an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced shrimp keepers.

Aquarium Requirements

Fire Red Shrimp don’t require a large aquarium, with tanks from approximately 20 litres providing plenty of room for a small colony. Smaller aquariums can also be used, however they can be more difficult to keep stable and may require closer monitoring.

A fully cycled, filtered aquarium is essential. Sponge filters are an excellent choice, or alternatively use a standard aquarium filter fitted with a pre-filter sponge. This helps protect tiny juvenile shrimp from being drawn into the filter.

A heater may not be required when the aquarium is kept in a consistently warm environment, although maintaining a stable temperature is important.

For the best results, provide plenty of cover including live aquarium plants, mosses, driftwood, rocks and shrimp hides. A well-planted environment helps shrimp feel secure, encourages natural behaviour and can help them display their best colour.

Water Quality

Fire Red Cherry Shrimp are relatively adaptable and can thrive across a range of water conditions, provided the aquarium remains stable and well maintained.

Never introduce shrimp to a newly established or uncycled aquarium. Shrimp are particularly sensitive to ammonia and nitrite, so both should remain at zero.

Regular water testing and routine partial water changes are recommended to maintain good water quality and prevent nitrate levels from becoming excessive. Avoid sudden or significant changes in temperature or water parameters wherever possible.

Recommended Water Parameters

pH: 6.2–8.0
Temperature: 18–27.5°C
GH: 4–8
KH: 3–15
TDS: 150–250 ppm

Colour & Grading

Shrimp grading can be subjective and may vary between breeders, suppliers and retailers. A shrimp considered a higher grade by one person may be considered a medium grade by another.

Shrimp supplied are generally juveniles, meaning their colour, size and individual characteristics may continue to develop as they mature.

Please note: Individual shrimp may vary naturally in size, colour and markings.
