Scientific Name: Neocaridina davidi
Common Name: Orange Cherry Shrimp
Care Level: Easy / Beginner Friendly
Origin: Taiwan

Orange Cherry Shrimp are a vibrant freshwater dwarf shrimp known for their beautiful orange colouration. Their bright appearance creates a striking contrast against green aquarium plants, dark substrates and natural décor, making them a fantastic choice for planted and nano aquariums.

Hardy, peaceful and relatively easy to care for, Orange Cherry Shrimp are an excellent option for beginners as well as experienced shrimp keepers looking to add another colourful variety to their collection.

Aquarium Requirements

Orange Cherry Shrimp don’t need a large aquarium to thrive, with a 20 litre or larger setup providing plenty of space for a small colony. While they can be kept in smaller aquariums, larger water volumes are generally easier to keep stable and are recommended for newer shrimp keepers.

A fully cycled and filtered aquarium is essential. Sponge filters are particularly well suited to shrimp tanks, while standard aquarium filters can be used with a pre-filter sponge fitted over the intake. This helps protect tiny juvenile shrimp from being drawn into the filtration system.

A heater may not be required if the aquarium is kept in a consistently warm environment, however maintaining a stable temperature is important.

Provide plenty of shelter and grazing areas with live plants, aquarium mosses, driftwood, rocks and shrimp hides. A well-established aquarium with plenty of cover helps shrimp feel secure and encourages natural behaviour and activity.

Water Quality

Orange Cherry Shrimp are relatively hardy and can adapt to a range of water conditions, however stable water parameters and good water quality are key to keeping them healthy.

Never introduce shrimp into an uncycled aquarium. They are sensitive to ammonia and nitrite, so both should remain at zero.

Regular water testing and partial water changes will help maintain healthy conditions and keep nitrate levels under control. When performing maintenance, avoid sudden changes in temperature or water chemistry.

Recommended Water Parameters

pH: 6.2–8.0
Temperature: 18–27.5°C
GH: 4–8
KH: 3–15
TDS: 150–250 ppm

Colour & Grading

Shrimp grading can vary between breeders, suppliers and retailers, so classifications such as low, medium or high grade can be subjective.

Shrimp supplied are generally juveniles and may not yet display their full adult colouration. Their orange colour, size and individual characteristics will continue to develop as they mature.

Please note: As these are live animals, individual shrimp may naturally vary in size, colour and markings.
