Scientific Name: Neocaridina davidi var. ‘Spiderman’
Common Name: SpiderMan Shrimp
Care Level: Easy / Beginner Friendly
Origin: Taiwan

SpiderMan Shrimp are an eye-catching variety of Neocaridina freshwater shrimp, making them a fantastic addition to planted, nano and dedicated shrimp aquariums. Their distinctive colouration makes them particularly attractive against green plants, mosses and natural aquarium décor.

Hardy and relatively easy to care for, SpiderMan Shrimp are suitable for beginners while still being an interesting variety for experienced shrimp enthusiasts and collectors.

Aquarium Requirements

SpiderMan Shrimp don’t require a large aquarium, with a 20 litre or larger setup providing a suitable environment for establishing a small colony. Smaller tanks can be used by experienced keepers, however maintaining stable water conditions becomes more challenging as aquarium volume decreases.

Always introduce shrimp to a fully cycled and filtered aquarium. Sponge filters are ideal for shrimp tanks, while standard aquarium filters can also be used when fitted with a pre-filter sponge. This provides additional protection for tiny juvenile shrimp that may otherwise be drawn into the filter intake.

Heating may not be necessary when the aquarium is kept in a consistently warm room, although stable temperatures are always preferred.

Provide plenty of hiding and grazing areas using live plants, aquarium mosses, driftwood, rocks or dedicated shrimp hides. A well-established planted aquarium provides security while encouraging natural grazing and activity.

Water Quality

SpiderMan Shrimp are relatively adaptable to different water conditions, but stability and good water quality are extremely important.

They should never be added to an uncycled or newly established aquarium. Ammonia and nitrite should remain at zero, while nitrate levels should be controlled through regular maintenance and partial water changes.

Regular testing is recommended to ensure water parameters remain within a suitable range. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, pH or other water parameters wherever possible.

Recommended Water Parameters

pH: 6.2–8.0
Temperature: 18–27.5°C
GH: 4–8
KH: 3–15
TDS: 150–250 ppm

Colour & Grading

Shrimp grading is subjective and can differ between breeders, suppliers and retailers. What one breeder considers a high-grade shrimp may be classified differently by another.

Shrimp supplied are generally juveniles, so their final colouration, markings and other characteristics may continue to develop as they grow and mature.

Please note: As these are live animals, individual shrimp will naturally vary in size, colour and markings.
