Scientific Name: Neocaridina davidi var. ‘Yellow’
Common Name: Yellow Cherry Shrimp
Care Level: Easy / Beginner Friendly
Origin: Taiwan

Yellow Cherry Shrimp are a vibrant freshwater dwarf shrimp known for their brilliant yellow colouration. Their bright appearance stands out beautifully amongst lush green plants, darker substrates and natural aquarium décor, making them an excellent choice for planted tanks, nano aquariums and dedicated shrimp colonies.

Peaceful, active and hardy, Yellow Cherry Shrimp are relatively easy to care for and make a great choice for both beginner and experienced shrimp keepers.

Aquarium Requirements

Yellow Cherry Shrimp require very little space, with a 10 litre or larger aquarium suitable for maintaining a small colony. While they can be kept in smaller setups, larger aquariums generally provide more stable water conditions and are easier to manage, particularly for beginners.

A fully cycled and filtered aquarium is essential. Sponge filters are particularly well suited to dwarf shrimp, while standard filters can be fitted with a pre-filter sponge to prevent tiny juvenile shrimp from being drawn into the intake.

A heater isn’t always necessary when the aquarium is kept in a consistently warm environment, although maintaining a stable temperature is recommended.

Create plenty of shelter and grazing areas using live plants, aquarium mosses, driftwood, rocks and shrimp hides. A mature, well-planted aquarium helps shrimp feel secure while providing surfaces for biofilm and natural grazing.

Water Quality

Yellow Cherry Shrimp are relatively adaptable and can thrive across a range of water parameters, provided conditions remain clean and stable.

They should never be introduced into an uncycled aquarium. Ammonia and nitrite should remain at zero, as shrimp are particularly sensitive to both.

Regular testing and partial water changes are recommended to maintain good water quality and keep nitrate levels under control. Avoid sudden or significant changes in temperature, pH or other water parameters.

Recommended Water Parameters

pH: 6.2–8.0
Temperature: 18–27.5°C
GH: 4–8
KH: 3–15
TDS: 150–250 ppm

Colour & Grading

Shrimp grading can be subjective and may differ between breeders, suppliers and retailers. Colour intensity can also vary naturally between individual shrimp.

Shrimp supplied are generally juveniles, so their final size, yellow colouration and individual characteristics may continue to develop as they mature.

Please note: As these are live animals, individual shrimp may naturally vary in size, colour and markings.
